In addition to the “Resources” page, I am in the process of compiling a list of websites that may be helpful, both with regard to the URC and with regard to church music in general. If you have any links you would like to share as well, just post a comment!
- URCNA website: The website of the Federation of United Reformed Churches in North America. This is a great resource for information on our beliefs and worship, if you’re new to the denomination, but it remains a tried-and-true reference point for URC members as well.
- URCNA Psalter Hymnal page: Within the URC’s website, this page contains some pertinent information about the forthcoming URC Psalter Hymnal. An excellent introduction to the purpose of the Psalter Hymnal Committee is their report to Synod London in 2010.
- Hymnary.org: This website offers free information about more than one million hymns–texts, tunes, authors, composers, and everything in between. You can compare altered versions of hymn texts, view some public-domain sheet music, and find other abundant resources. Unfortunately, their database is rather slim with regard to the 1976 Psalter Hymnal, but they offer very useful information nonetheless.
- GenevanPsalter.com is an overflowing source of information about the Genevan Psalter. Texts and tunes are available to view, hear, and even download. In particular, Michael Owens’s Introduction to the Genevan Psalter offers a thorough look at the history of this songbook.
